Sharyn Maceren Sharyn Maceren

In a world where a handful of writers are responsible for half of the music you hear, singer/songwriter Sharyn Maceren has'joined the legion of performers that choose to speak for themselves. Proving that there is more to dance and pop music than just the beats, Sharyn creafes innovative and daring lyrics that also move you.

On her brand new maxi-single, "One and One" Sharyn tells the tale of a girl at a club who notices a guy noticing her. Confident and inviting, she sings, "Don't sit and watch like I'm a fantasy; I'm really here so come and dance with me." With her passionate vocals set against a backdrop of high-energy rave sounds and hard hitting break beats, "One and One" captures the essence of the unpredictable night life. With the maxi-single having three completely distinct mixes, the collection also highlights the versatility of producer Joe Grandberg.

With Sharyn's natural ability to give strong melodies and lyrics to every song, her label found that they had more quality material in their hands than they knew what to do with. With only room for thirteen songs to go on the album, they decided to release two more songs as exclusive B-sides ori the "One and One" maxisingle. The two songs that were chosen were: "They Put Me On The Mix" and "Hard to Get".

For those that don't know, "Hard to Get" was actually Sharyn's first single. Like Prince, she too, was 'formerly known as'. While many referred to her as "the S Factor", Sharyn actually went anonymous as the featured vocalist and sole composer on the ever-so-catchy hit record.

Though she had seen her work reach Billboard charts and gain an astonishing amount of success in radio and retail, the road wasn't always so smooth for Sharyn. The anonymity in this situation had caused a great deal of confusion, allowing controversy to overshadow her undeniable abilities. While many would have easily considered this a setback, Sharyn simply saw it as a prompt to do what she does best. She wrote a song about it and thaYs where "They Put Me On the Mix" came from.

With a sample of "They Put Me..." on mp3.com, Sharyn has already received hundreds of reviews from dance enthusiasts around the country. Some proclaimed her to be "groundbreaking" and the song "powerful" while others believed of this to be an act of revenge. Sharyn reveals that, "this song, like every one of my songs, is just my way of releasing emotions." She adds, "I find satisfaction in being honest in my music and I am amazed when I see how people are responding to that. If anyone can get something positive out of my songs, then everything that I've had to go through would have been worth it."

It is that confidence and fearlessness that has kept Sharyn standing strong amidst times of struggle while it is her openness and honesty that has kept her music so vibrant and powerful. Her understanding of the making of popular music along with her unbridled soul is what will truly make her a force to be reckoned with for a long time to come.
